Professional Tree Removal in Cootamundra & Surrounding NSW
Trees are a wonderful part of the Australian landscape — but there are times when a tree needs to come down. Whether it has been damaged by storms, poses a safety risk to your home or family, is diseased or dying, or simply needs to be removed to make way for a renovation or land improvement project, Phil's Tree Service provides safe, efficient, and professional tree removal for residential and commercial properties throughout Cootamundra and the broader Riverina region.
Tree removal is one of the most hazardous tasks on any property, and it is not something to leave to chance. Our team is qualified to Arboriculture Levels 1 & 2, fully insured, and experienced in the safe removal of trees of all sizes — from a small ornamental in a suburban backyard to a large gum tree towering over a rural property. We use a cherry picker for high-reach work and a large tipper trailer to manage debris and waste, ensuring a clean, professional result from start to finish.

When Do You Need a Tree Removed?
There are many reasons a tree may need to be removed from your property. Common situations we assist with include:
Dead or dying trees that pose a risk of falling
Storm-damaged trees with structural instability
Trees growing too close to homes, fences, powerlines, or structures
Diseased trees that cannot be saved and may spread to others
Land clearing for building, farming, or property development
Trees with invasive root systems damaging foundations or pipes
Overgrown trees that are blocking light, views, or access
Our Tree Removal Process
Every tree removal job begins with a thorough site assessment. We evaluate the tree, its surroundings, and any potential hazards before determining the safest and most efficient method of removal. We take into account the proximity of structures, powerlines, fences, and other vegetation, as well as access requirements for our equipment.
Once the plan is in place, our team works systematically and carefully — whether that means sectional dismantling from the top down using our cherry picker, or a controlled fell where space permits. All debris is removed using our large tipper trailer, and the site is left clean and tidy when we are done. If required, we can also arrange stump grinding following removal so the entire tree is properly dealt with.

Tree Removal FAQs
Do I need council approval to remove a tree in Cootamundra?
In many cases, yes. Depending on the size, species, and location of the tree, you may need approval from Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council before removal. We recommend checking with your local council before proceeding. Phil's Tree Service can advise you based on our experience working in the area, but the responsibility for obtaining any required permits rests with the property owner. We are happy to discuss this with you when we assess your job.
How long does a tree removal take?
The time required depends on the size of the tree, its location, access requirements, and the complexity of the removal. A straightforward small tree removal may take just an hour or two, while a large or difficult tree in a confined space could take a full day or more. We will give you a realistic time estimate when we assess your job.
Do you remove the debris and clean up after the removal?
Yes. Debris removal and site clean-up is a standard part of our service. We bring our large tipper trailer to take away all branches, timber, and green waste, leaving your property clean and tidy when we are finished. If you would like to keep any of the timber for firewood, just let us know and we can arrange to cut and stack it for you.
Can you remove a tree that is close to powerlines?
Work near powerlines requires special care and, in some cases, the involvement of the network operator. Our team is experienced in working around powerlines safely, and we will assess the situation carefully before proceeding. If the tree requires the powerline to be de-energised or if additional safety measures are needed, we will discuss this with you and assist in coordinating with the appropriate authorities where possible.
